If you have tested gartleys with C of .382 - .618 and found out that those kinds of gartleys still work more then 50%, then it's ok. Then C mustn't touch .618. If you haven't tested hundreds of gartleys, then you should take the rules as they are. C must touch .618. If C doesn't touch 0.618 then we may meet a crab pattern, because C is the only point that distiguishes the two. The completion of a Crab pattern is beyond X. This will defenitely stop you out if you trade it as gartley. See what I mean? If you don't want to meet a Crab then you should wait until C touches .618. Know your edge and act accordinly taking only the best opportunity.
