This is the long-term $DXY chart with periods of rising (orange rectangles) and falling/stagnating (blue rectangles) USD plotted against $SPX . I wanted to visualize how they overlap and whether there are any clear parallels in major phases of the market. One could argue for a number of ways how USD strength affects stock market or even vice versa, my main interest was to doublecheck whether the chart supports viewing the US Dollar strength/weakness as a general indicator of the state of liquidity in the global system.
