Improving wage growth.
Given the current environmental conditions of the US economy, this in turn will, most likely, lead to higher consumer confidence, which in turn will lead to household consumption growth and spending. Then, this will be a sure case of economic growth.
Some people look to the retail sector and all the store closings. Well, this is because the US economy is undergoing a technology shift. More people are using their cellphones to do shopping, research information and communicate with other people. Also, there are too many unnecessary retail stores that don't serve a function in this new environment. It is a remnant of and older generation. However, Many millennials do frequent malls to get out of the house to go "site-seeing" from a hard day or week of work. Many just want to walk around but not necessarily buy because they are affected by student loans or have tighter pockets than the generation before them; particularly, US citizens.
