Amazon Expands Same-Day Prescription Delivery

Key points:
  • Amazon's same-day prescription delivery now in NY and LA
  • Service to expand to over 12 US cities

Amazon.com has launched same-day delivery for prescription medication in New York and the greater Los Angeles area, with an expansion plan to over 12 US cities by the end of the year. This service is already operational in several cities including Austin, Indianapolis, Miami, Phoenix, and Seattle. Furthermore, drone delivery for customers is being implemented in College Station, Texas.

To expedite deliveries and cater to urgent-care needs, Amazon is employing small-format facilities. A facility in Brooklyn, for example, stocks a selection of the 12,000 medications available through Amazon. The company's goal is to process prescriptions within minutes, prioritizing speed and convenience for home delivery of prescription medications.

The delivery methods may vary depending on the city. Amazon may use eco-friendly e-bikes, drones, all-electric vans, or other commercial vehicles to deliver medications to customers' doors. The expansion of this service is part of Amazon's strategy to be closer to customers and ensure that patients are more likely to take their medicine when it is delivered to them at home.
