Their business is the blockchain. A similar amount of volatility over the last 3 months as the lesser known alt-coins. You could basically swap out the charts and you wouldn't notice a difference, hence the big upside. Unlike AMD, SQ or OSTK, RIOT is all crypto, they have no other business to fall back on. As such, it is a fair alternative, both in terms of risk and reward, to many of the altcoins.
