Moving averages are lagging indicators, that means bigger the ma bigger the lag
in simple words if you are using 50/200 ma crossover you will get buy/sell signal way longer than say this 5/10 ma crossover
but due to this small ma crossovers are more prone to fakeouts than the bigger ma crossovers
5/10 MA crossover simply means that 5 day average trend is stronger than 10 day average trend ,therefore recent trend of 5 days is good to buy than trend of past 10 days, therefore a buy signal :p
*MA'S DONT TEND TO WORK IN RANGING MARKETS SPECIALLY SMALL MA CROSSOVERS BCOZ THAT SIMPLY MEANS THERE IS NO PROPER TREND THEREFORE NO PROPER CROSSOVERS WILL BE FOUND
Its on you to decide what ma should you use
they change on every timeframe
Try using 9/21 , 21/55 or bigger ones like 50/200
see which suits your trading style
sometimes these ma's also acts as support and resistance specially big ma's like 50,100 and 200
there are various types of ma's like simple ma, exponential ma, etc
there are no as such predefined rules to use these,
play with them on different tf's, backtest them, see which ma and ema is most respected by price sometimes they are random like test 89 ema on daily or 15 ema on daily, see which was respected in earlier 2014 downfall
use such combinations or any one simple ma, ema (no crossovers) if you need too,
at the end after proper experimenting use what suits your need.
