According to research, 95% of our behaviour daily are on auto pilot. That means, it is performed out of our own habits(good and bad).

Imagine waking up each day and having to think consciously what you need to do? Wouldn't that be stressful and a hassle ? That is why we formed habits to make things easier for us human kinds. Habits like brushing our teeth, tidy up the bed, maybe do some push-ups or chin ups for some guys, turn on the music or news, make the coffee, wake up the kids, prepare breakfast, etc.

You see, this myriad of activities that you performed daily are on auto-pilot. You may change the variation a little here and there and may performed an hour later but the gist of the daily activities remain the same.

Trading in many aspects is more of mind work than grappling with the latest MT5 software or latest indicators in town.

I want you to ponder over these thoughts for a moment :

- what were you thinking when you have a series of wins or losses ?

Wins - do you get over zealous and start to increase your bet (position size) or take on more trades, maybe not doing adequate research on the stocks you wanna buy ?
Losses - you bury it, you deny it and you want to seek revenge. So you got bitter and take on more risky trades, forget about your Stop Loss and borrow money to trade?

So you see, our mind , the subconscious mind is much like the tape recorder. What music CD you insert in IS what type of music you get. There is no two ways about it. The only way to change the music is not to change the tape recorder but change the CD. And the CD , metaphorically speaking is referring to our conscious mind, the creative part that can bring beautiful changes, transformation in our lives.

The patterns that play out each day in our mind will not stop. It is like the tape recorder, on an autopilot mode, playing you the same music that you have inserted in (accumulated from childhood, what you hear from others, loved ones, environment you are in, etc).

Make a deal with yourself, starting today. Here are some of the things I have done to initiate change in my life :

1. If you are left handed and wear your watch on the right side, start wearing it on the left for a month. Do it , no ifs or buts. Acknowledge that uncomfortable feelings within, do not fight back and listen to what it is trying to tell you. As days passed, you will find the same physical watch that you have been wearing on the right and now left seems lighter than the first day.

2. In trading, maybe you can use the same strategy on a different product and see the difference. For example, if you trade AUDUSD, you can try trading Gold or maybe Indices for a change. If you want to play safe, then do it on a demo account. The idea is to generate a new sets of feelings using the same strategies. We need to wake the inner to change the external circumstances. Observe the changes, if any, no matter how subtle.

Or attempt to trade on a longer time frame from hourly to swing trade (a few days to a week). I did that and have not look back since.

Another way I change to take advantage of the market is to learn to short sell. That was tough initially as I could not get the idea as it has "always been" buy, buy and buy. Sell seems uncomfortable and I practised a lot on the demo account, created adequate profits and evidence to venture out to live account. Try it and you will be pleasantly surprised.
