BABA - Charlie Munger, Warren buffet and Ray Dalio can't all be wrong!
This is a long term position I opened in my portfolio.
I opened it in a shorter term account (1-3 years) and a long term account (10 years). I think the returns on this can be 2-3 x over 5 years, or more, and I can't imagine what a long term return could look like
In a stock market where things are turning into bearish, specially in the US growth sector. Shuffling some money into China is a safe bet in my opinion. I can stand behind this decision because much smarter people than me are doing the same thing!
I will be honest, I did not study the balance sheets or income statements, and I do not want to pretend that I can 'calculate the intrinsic value' of this stock. It is without a doubt phenomenally cheap on paper, and in all honesty, the only thing holding this back are China politics, and the way those are perceived by the rest of the world.
Ali baby makes 27% of Charlie Munger's net worth. So, don't go put all your eggs in one basket. I will try to make it such, the my investment into China stocks never exceed 30% of my portfolio. But I think the opportunity right now is unbelievable attractive in Baba, JD.com and Tencent, and this is where my China investments lay.
On my short term portfolio, I am looking to sell in 2-3 years, hopefully around the present all time high.
In 3 years, this return makes 55% per year for me. Baba has achieved those returns already between 2018 and 2020. I am hoping this can happen again b/w 22 and 23.
I do not anticipate buying more unless the stock falls significantly lower, which makes the opportunity more attractive.
Also, Just keep in mind, this is something you have to follow earnings after earnings and watch for moved made by Charlie Munger if you too, like me, are copying the trade idea from him.
