Improved data of BIST futures: make use of settlement prices, back-adjustment, and Open interest

Mar 13

Today, we’re bringing some improvements to the futures data sourced by Borsa Istanbul. Gold, silver, and other futures will now be displayed with additional features, making the data more visible and accurate. Let’s see what updates are now accessible from your charts.

Settlement price on the chart

This update allows you to opt for either the Settlement or Last price as the closing value of the contracts shown on the chart. The Settlement price represents the value set by the exchange at the end of a trading day, calculated from the averages of final asks and bids. Traders often use it to get a more transparent view of the gains and losses associated with their positions.

To toggle between the Settlement or Last price options, simply click the SET button located at the bottom of the chart, or select the Use settlement as close on daily interval option in the chart settings.

Please note that the settlement price is not displayed during intraday intervals. For further information on the Settlement and Last prices, please refer to this article.

Back-adjustment of previous contracts

You can now back-adjust previous contracts in BIST continuous futures. This feature is particularly valuable as it adjusts previous contract prices to account for the impact of rollover, effectively eliminating the gap caused by price differences between different contracts. This adjustment provides a clearer and more accurate picture of price movements over time.

To activate this functionality, simply click the B-ADJ button located at the bottom of the chart, or opt for the Adjust for contracts changes setting in the menu. For additional details, please refer to our Help center.

Open Interest

Finally, we’ve introduced the capability to track the Open Interest value for futures. This function not only shows the number of derivative contracts that are still open and unsettled but also helps assess market sentiment. With Open Interest, traders can monitor investor interest in a particular futures contract, which can aid in making more informed decisions. To access this data, simply go to the Indicators, Metrics & Strategies menu and select the Open Interest indicator.

We hope these updates to the futures of Borsa Istanbul will help you better understand futures markets and develop more thought-through strategies.
