Output growth in the first half of the year was more stable than expected. GDP increased 0.4% in the June quarter, although GDP and household consumption both continued to decline on a per capita basis. Domestic demand was stronger than expected as strong growth in business investment and public investment offset weak growth in household consumption during the quarter. There have also been modest upward revisions to GDP over the previous several quarters, leaving year-end GDP growth about half a percentage point higher than forecast in August. Timely indicators point to continued output. continued modest growth in the September quarter.
