UVXY poorly timed!!My timing was a fair way out on this baby, but seriously how is it possible that my upward estimate was an understatement??? Only wish I had the confidence to have held my position longer. I was buying heaps under $15 and got rid of them all by the time they hit $30 LOL! Need to learn a little more about where to set a trailing stop I think. Anybody got any tips?by ArtyMarty774
Pro Shares Ultra VIX $UVXY There has been a major rush for safety and this the UVXY has been a popular trade. Be careful as this could drop very fast and trap you with major losses. Hitting trendline resistance and rejecting in today's session by RedHotStocks20
UVXY Waiting For Negative Macro Catalyst, THEN Huge PUMP!We have a very large descending triangle on the monthly! Playing this out will depend on some continuation of negative news (such as Coronavirus vaccines not working), global recession, etc. The Chinese economy is on the verge of recession, they have a fake economy built on a deck of cards that's ready to fall. If you don't think China is fake as F*&k with economic reporting, then go buy yourself a ghost city apartment. Shortby ChartProphetUpdated 8811
$UVXY Be really careful, up 55% premarket. The market has entered the perfect storm, but the UVXY has spiked 55% premarket Fear is high, this can drop faster than it has risen, fear can often signal bottoms just as euphoria signals tops. UVXY is the TESLA of fear. VIX will be at highs not seen since the Financial crisis and we are not in a financial crisis by Bullishcharts2241
UVXY PROSHARES , Inverse Trade Fun!The ETF fund UVXY has exited out of a descending wedge and seems to be playing out. Regardless of the fact that it does reverse splits, this does seem to be a good play if not just in the short term. I have Fibonacci targets at $42, $63, and $79Longby ChartProphet337
Proshares Trust Ultar Vix protection $uvxy The scramble for protection today could produce a massive move in the VIX, even if the market can stabilize, investors will take the warning to hedge their portfolio. Small $$$ moves can produce some enormous %%%%% gains. Longby BullishchartsUpdated 8850
Short VIX Play: UVXY PutsDecay strongly favors the contract holder. Notice even in the course of one day, with VIX hanging steady around 35-36, this thing lost $1 over 6 hours. See most insightful post credit to Hungry_Hippo, attached! Traded for $24 in the AM then price relaxed as VIX fell, on viral scare news at 14:38 VIX jumped back to 36 but UVXY reached... 23! This thing fades fast. It contains no real property or equities; ONLY futures short-term contracts, which wind down real fast. Scroll back to see price change over past 8 years; this is not a graph error, it really declined from over $15m to trade where it is today. When market recovers, this ETF will go back in the crapper but it will be much less than when it started in Feb, will go under $13 and should crush down to $10 as the futures in the fund decay with time value. Only risk in it is another tank-off, we could certainly see a retest of the Friday 28 Feb low, but this will still decay! Folks ask; "Why is it still over $20 then?!" Because of reverse splits! When it goes under $10 the exchange splits the shares 1:2 and the price doubles but holders gain half as many shares, eventually adjusted for these splits it will end up trading for a few pennies. DO NOT HOLD THIS ETF!!! My strat: In the Mar $18 and Apr $17 puts, these are fairly cheap plays between $1.1 - 1.6 today. Back at $12 these will be deep ITM. A 0.786 Fib retracement of prices will drive this down to crush levels. This isn't investing advice, just another crack pot scheme; trade at your own risk; GLTA!!!Shortby DaddySawbucksUpdated 777
UVXY - 100% retrace up - Corona Virus is the catalystBeen watching this for months and the catalyst is finally here. Italy reported today that there was a lot of new cases found there and this naturally scared the markets. More china supply slowdown will only increase the odds we hit 100% from the local bottom. I'm going to stagger sell above 50% returns. by Asis_114
Historically $UVXY doesn't break above its quarterly open...Too bad it's the weekend. Now we'll have to wait and see which way this whips! Black line: The quarterly open acting as resistance. You can see how well that goes: A covered ITM call makes sense if you're bearish. Collect the premium, cut the short sell and ride the call if you see a bounce. I can't imagine gauging where this will go next, but I sure hope it's down!Shortby NeoButaneUpdated 7
VIX Insurance Policy $uvxy Just how low can this go before a explosive move higher. Moves in SPCE and TSLA highlights the complacency in the market. If willing to suffer some downside short term, VIX protection is imperative as the upside potential is enormous. Longby RedHotStocks1126
DO not buy and hiold this ETF! (UVXY Repost)Reposting because I see people still posting on this ETF...… (my followers can ignore this, this is a copy and paste of the original) Several people have asked me about UVXY because I flip UVXY puts every now and then.... These leveraged VIX ETFs have terrible decay. It's not something you hold and hope for volatility to go up again some day. If trading was that easy, everyone would do it. Instead the decay kills you. This is why I buy UVXY puts every time the market tanks, because I know the VIX has to come down eventually and UVXY decays. Dec 12 ... the underlying assets are options so there's always time decay. Also, leveraging makes it worse, and UVXY and TVIX are leveraged. Let's use TVIX 2X as an example with a 10% move down and 11.1% move up: Unleveraged: 100 -10% x 100 = 90 90 + 11.1% x 90 - 99.9 2x Leveraged: 100 - 2 x 10% x 100 = 80 80 + 2 x 11.1% x 80 = 97.76 So every time the underlying asset of a leveraged ETF moves up and down, it actually loses value even if the underlying asset recovers to the same price. Leveraged ETFs should only be used for short periods when you know the direction. Take note how this thing closed below $11, and the VIX hit 13.6, so this thing is gonna head under $10 when the VIX hits 12 again. That is what decay does.... Also, never buy VIX unless it's under 12, and even then it's a crap shoot. It stayed below 10 for a long time back in 2017. This concludes the lesson on leveraged VIX ETFs. (No position, but I lost money on this once and still making it back by shorting any pops)by hungry_hippoUpdated 10108

Calls on the Cboe Volatility Index, or VIX, with a strike price of 25 that expire on Feb. 20 are the most actively traded VIX option contract as of mid-morning Wednesday, with volumes in excess of 75,000. UVXY - Exiting Your Hedge / Perfect AMD Hedge0. As always see my other posts for AMD background and analysis. 1. So you own a CALL SPREAD on the UVXY, or you bought the shares themselves. In my case I am hedging a large corporate and personal position in AMD. We are always long the equity (AMD). The correlation to AMD inversely is above 90 percentile, and can be easily calculated based on your position size. So the VIX just spiked hard due to "apparent" retaliation by Iran. Now if you own options, you can't do anything until the market opens at 9:30AM EST. You will have to wait. The spreads will be massive, and if you own a SPREAD, it is even worse. You CANT sell in the first 10 to 20 minutes, you need to let the futures settle, and spreads to tighten or you will get robbed. You also need to consider the sentiment in the morning. If you also look at the opening charts, and spreads and try to place a sell order close to the ask price, and not the bid. The bid comes up to the ask during the first 15 of trading, and you get jipped (slippage) if you dump on the bid... Badly. So wait until about 10am. Tensions will still be high. If you feel we may run higher as people don't sell equities but run for PUTS, that will take us higher, and the market can go up at the same time. Historically, these types of political events are very short-lived spikes on the VIX, so probably best to take profit right away, wait for the dust to settle and buy it back. 2. If you own UVXY shares. You can start dumping at 7:30AM. Don't do it. They bottom usually around 8:30am and go back up hard until the open. Wait until just before 9:30 to sell them in the pre-market. If tensions are high we may go higher. They tend to plummet right at the open at 9:30AM, especially with Trump and crew out in full force tomorrow with the press conference. If you feel we may run higher as people don't sell equities but run for PUTS, that will take us higher, and the market can go up at the same time. Historically, these types of political events are very short-lived spikes on the VIX, so probably best to take profit right away, wait for the dust to settle and buy it back, that is what it is designed for. 3. You need to judge if the VIX is going to remain high, I would venture it won't and you should exit your position tomorrow. Cheers.Longby drchelsea17
